AUTOMATIC: Art Show Benefit for RoboGames

Do sentient machines dwell on the existential circuit that leads to the spiritual 404 error?
Does being a machine mean just being a device: literarily, artistically and literally?
Or does everything just boil down to everyone?s deep-seated need to crush all humans and plot eventual total world domination?

10/27 Sketch Tuesdays @111 Minna

Come watch your favorite artists draw at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco for Sketch Tuesdays. Better yet, bring your sketchbook and draw with them! I'll be at the center table, cranking out the jams for cash and trade. You can expect squids and robots, for sure. I'm also good at pointy teeth and tiki masks.

More info about Sketch Tuesdays can be found on Fecal Face's calendar. Also, check out my coverage of Sketch Tuesday on Laughing Squid.

Photo by Randy Stewart @stewtopiaI will be set up once again at this year's Alternative Press Expo (APE) at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco. Come find me on the south side of the hall at table #113. I'll have new prints, books, and paintings. APE Returns to San Francisco October 17–18!
One of the country’s most popular and vibrant alternative comics shows returns to its San Francisco home, The Concourse Exhibition Center, for another two big days of fall fun this October. APE, the Alternative Press Expo, rolls into the city by the bay on October 17 and 18, 2009.
Having switched to the fall in 2008, APE proved to be a big hit with the comics-loving people of San Francisco no matter what time of year. APE 2009 is shaping up to be another crowd pleaser, with seven special guests having signed on: Jamaica Dyer (courtesy SLG Publishing), Phoebe Gloeckner, Dean Haspiel, Batton Lash, Lark Pien, Dash Shaw, and Jeff Smith.

10/16 Eternal Sleep at 1AM Gallery

I've been working on some new pieces for a "Day of the Dead" themed art show at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco. The show is booked with great talent from around the Bay. It's also 1AM's one-year anniversary event, so it's a great excuse to check out the space. Hope to see you there. Here's more information via 1AM Gallery's website:

eternal_sleep_front

Thanks to our great fans, supporters, and artists, we’ve made it through our FIRST YEAR.  Through the good, the bad, and the ugly from the past year, the most important lesson we have learned is that street and urban art is here to stay.  To commemorate our anniversary year, 1:AM gallery is hosting Eternal Sleep, a tribute to Dia de los Muertos.  For this exhibition, we have reanimated our lineup of artists from our inaugural year to haunt our walls with skulls, death, and the celebration of life through their eyes.  This will be a mergence of the soul of 1:AM with graffiti writers/artists being displayed alongside fine artists, photographers, sculptors, and custom toy designers. Eternal Sleep epitomizes what 1:AM strives to accomplish, bringing people from different walks of life together.

The diverse artist lineup:

Peter Gronquist, Mear One, Mark Bode, 64 Colors, Alice Koswara, Bam, Bryn Taylor, Camer, Carlos A, Dave Crosland, Dia, Dril One, Eli Leppert, Hyde, Jorone, Josh Ellingson, King 157, Kiro, Kob, KRK Ryden, Lango, Laurel Anderson, Lawrence Yang, Lily Black, Nate1, Oliver Fader, Orly Locquaio, Peabe, Pemex, Pete Castro, Phoneticontrol, Reuben Rude, Reyes, Toro, Twick, Vogue

Expect nothing less than a spectrum of art strumming the joyful and mournful tones of life and death that will reverberate to the deepest parts of your soul.

Opening reception is on October 16th from 7 – 10pm. DJ Don Kainoa, Spinnerty, and Bozak will be dropping the beats with guest turntablist from Abstract Revolver.  The opening is a 21+ event.  Exhibition will run through November 6th.

I look forward to White Walls Gallery annual transformation into a pinewood derby raceway. This year's Hell's Belles Pinewood Derby & Silent Art Auction was well attended by splintery gearheads of all ages. My entry, "Pinewood Deora" failed to finish, but it's looks that count, right? Sneak Peek...

9/20 Work in Progress 2

Here's a detail of something I'm working on right now for an upcoming show. I'll post details soon.

Photos from "Playdate" @lowerdeck, SF

"Playdate" at the brand-spanking-new lowerdeck gallery went off last night in a swanky basement near the bay. The show really came together nicely, with lots of good stuff from local heroes like Dave Crossland, Adam Flores, and Tony Papesh. All of us from the Local 303 were showing artwork as well. Matt Delight, Dave Gravey, and I held down the fort for most of the evening. Jason Dryg and his family hung in there until their toddler wore himself out. The variety of artwork was impressive, ranging from tiny and delicate watercolor pieces to a room-filling light/sound installation.

Weekend Painting

I've been painting a lot of little things lately. This is a little 6"x6" cat-crab painted with acrylic and water-soluble oils.
