20 Fishes

20 Fishes -Progress

In preparation for Emerald City Comicon, I've sketched up twenty drinking fish people. Each of these drawings were made with ink and acrylic paint on miniature wallet-sized canvases. They will be available for sale at the Comicon for ten bucks, so please stop by my table to get yours before it's gone. Prints of the entire set are available now and you can pick one of right here from this post! The prints are signed 11x17" giclées, printed on Moab Photo Rag paper with fade-resistant pigment. They are $20 each and $5 for shipping (rolled in a tube). Photos of the print below.

"DEAD MEAT" Screen Print

Lately, I've been exploring the links between ancient mythology and popular culture. This is the first in a series that I am creating that draws parallels between the stories of Theseus and Rocky Balboa. "DEAD MEAT" is a four-color screen print produced by Burlesque of North America. It turned out better than I could have imagined with a nice metallic gold ink for the shorts and glove details. The prints are 18x24" on thick Cougar White paper. This edition is limited to fifty prints, signed and numbered. They can be purchased right here on this post or in the Store section of my site.

What is this?

Each month the gallery hosts an evening of live art making featuring both established and emerging Bay Area artists. Inspired by Southern Exposure’s Monster Drawing Rally, 111 Minna offers patrons the opportunity to see local artists at work and get acquainted with them. It is also a way for artists to meet each other and to be inspired by each other’s creative process.

Sketch Tuesdays offers the local arts community a place to congregate, to talk, to create and to be seen. There is usually room for artists to just drop in and start drawing, but the good seats are reserved for the invited artists.

Art is for sale at reasonable prices and will be displayed until the event closes. This is a great opportunity to become a collector and to meet some very talented people!!

2011 in Pictures

I'm sitting here in a huge, empty, Viennesse apartment feeling reflective. It's odd finishing out the year in another country, so far from friends and family. 2011 been the most eventful year on record for me and, for posterity's sake, here are some of the highlights:

"Bad Dads", a tribute to the films of Wes Anderson is happening on Halloween in San Francisco at Spoke Art Gallery. The group show will feature numerous interpretations of Anderson's films from The Royal Tenenbaums to The Fantastic Mr. Fox. My piece, "Kumar" is based on a scene from Bottle Rocket. APE 2011, Oct 1-2 San Francisco

Photo from APE '10 by Mike Yoshioka

It's time once again for the Alternative Press Expo at the Concourse Center in San Francisco. If you know me, you know that APE is my favorite convention. There are a few reasons for that. The first reason is that it's mere blocks from where I live! The second reason is that all my favorite comics and art folk come to town exhibit or attend. Lastly, there's a bar in the beautiful wood and skylit convention center. Let me repeat that...THERE'S A BAR IN THE BUILDING! So, really there's no excuse for you not to come out and support your favorite artist/writer/creatives from all over the world. I will have new artwork on display and for sale as prints. Please come by and say hello.
