BART, "Thank You Riders" Illustrations

I was recently contracted by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to create a series of illustrations to be featured inside the trains. The campaign is called "Thank You BART Riders", and it spotlights a different station and highlights it's uniqueness in the system. If you're in the Bay Area, you should start seeing these aboard the trains sometime in early Spring. I've worked with BART on some projects in the past and it was nice to be asked to work on more illustrations.

Below are the finished four illustrations. The final printed posters will feature text over the images that explain each station's special contribution to the BART system.

As one might expect, working with a major transportation agency can have it's challenges. Under the art direction of BART there were many comments, revision requests, and feedback relating to representation of diversity, safety issues, all-ages appropriateness, etc. They've got a lot of people to please. I'm happy with the way the final four images turned out but sometimes I like these process sketches even more. Below are just a few of the sketches that I made for this series. If you look closely, you'll even find some stations that didn't make the cut.
